Research: Clara Breen at Kath Libbert Gallery ‘Alternative Wedding Fair’

It was their 14th year of doing the Alternative Wedding Fair. Some of the makers that caught my eye were Hanna Tommola, Jeanne Marell, Deborah Cadby, Emily Knight (Enamel Work), and Clara Breen who gave a short talk.

  • At university she started by making viewing devices of paper embedded in resin (2003). ‘Like looking through a kaleidoscope.’
  • Drilling blocks of paper
  • Themes of geology and memories
  • Map necklace
  • Paper and silver Rings ‘We often keep hold of train tickets, photographs and leaflets to remind ourselves of a past experience. Combining these with silver, I play with the notion of preciousness, re-interpreting the keepsake.’ These were featured on woman’s hour

  • Geological Strata – rings – ‘Precious Strata’
  • Fragments of map
  • Showing through stone
  • Grandma diagnosed with Alzheimer’s when she was young  so she became aware of memories being precious, trying to fossilise ideas.
